Why I think AI is gonna go down in a few years?
It is 2025. AI, as we call it these days, simply translates to LLMs and generative stuff, be it images, videos, text, voice, almost all sorts of media possible. We have AI in everything now. It is everywhere, in apps, in websites, on social media, youtube, literally everywhere. Even the latest thriller movie storylines are all around "cyber" wars (even if they screw up the most basic things).
Point is, it is no longer limited only to tech world or developers. It is now the buzz word. It is currently the money makaing term for everyone around. And well, I, as a developer, can not seem to catch up on all new that is coming every single day. Neither am I able to capitalise it in any way. So here I am to hate on AI. And also to share why I think AI is just a "trend".
Humans
Humans are lazy creatures. Since our emergence, we have created things that make us do our stuff easier. You can call it innovation, but that also stems from the fact that we needed to do things easier. AI is the latest one on that list. We are doing that because we can. But as I said on twitter,
what if after sometime we realise all this AI stuff was not needed and we were doing it just because we could.

Humans are also egoistic creatures. We are the most intelligent life present on Earth as we know it. We do not and will not like it if some other creature emerges the next day more intelligent than us. What if it is our own creation? All the air of AI is gonna take over world might be a little too stretched (at least as of now). However, going by the trends,
- with agentic AI in picture,
- LLMs being able to solve the toughest exams,
- LLMs being a reviewer and even writer in academic papers,
- and unmatched realistic videos and images being generated,
it is safe to say we are soon approaching somewhere near the point where if we let it, we are already less intelligent. And I think, as soon as it becomes apparent in a serious way, publicly, the ego of the human race will take over. There is going to be heavy backlash from general public. And that, will be the start of the downfall.
AI Slop
What are we using AI for? I am talking about the general public, not space organizations or defence forces or other serious institutions. We are using it to
- generate text,
- help us write code,
- get personal help or,
- to summarise somthing online.
Call me hypocrite to hate on AI, but yeah I use it too. For quickly getting summarized result on something and to ask cross questions on that. I also use it to get quick help in development (never copy pasting my code into it though to solve errors) and also sometimes to generate images for web projects.
Creators use it to generate images and clips for their videos. But let's face it, real photographs are not replaced by AI images and same for videos. Sure they can get better and better but it is still generated.
How long can we bear generated stuff? It gets repetitive. The term AI slop is coined to refer to all of these generated stuff floating around internet, taking up space, blocking real humans.
Environment
Some theories online suggest that one query on chatGPT costs 10 millilitres of water. (It is used to cool down servers on which chatGPT is running). But Sam Altman denies it:
i particularly love when the anti-AI crowd makes up shit about our water usage while eating a hamburger https://t.co/nXmJR1vuca

I have no knowledge or ability to conduct a research and find out the truth. But one thing I do know is that, there are huge servers being built to run these massive LLMs. The companies are in a race to make as much money possible. And to build those servers, greenery has to be cleared off. In addition to that, huge amount of power is needed to run these servers 24X7.
we have signed a deal for an additional 4.5 gigawatts of capacity with oracle as part of stargate. easy to throw around numbers, but this is a _gigantic_ infrastructure project.

I think this costs something to environment atleast. I am not activist or anything. Just what I believe.
Conclusion
I don't hate AI. I am not anti-AI. I just believe the hype we have right now, is going to go down in a few years. That is all. I just want to make a prediction. It might not happen. It might just shrink down to a better way to find things online. Or a way to let your imagination fly. It can be anything. But all I know is, humans are not going to let it go beyond themselves. We are masters.
